Welcome to the Johnny x Velma FC!  One of the classiest crack pairs from the minds of Hanna-Barbera Studios.

Sure Velma has her career and Johnny is a professional lady-killer, but I can totally see them make their relationship work :D

Now before you say, "Whoa, random!" I'd like you to remember that:
1. They were in an episode of Johnny's cartoon "Johnny Bravo" together.
- [link] A great episode.  Johnny chases Daphne at first, but Velma is sweet on him.

2. They were featured as a couple in 2 Cartoon Network promos - [link] [link]
- Johnny is smitten with her, she's in love with him.  I know they can make it work.

Thing is, Johnny is a Mama's boy.  We know this about his character.  And up walks Velma, who reminds me of his mother Bunnie in a few ways.  That slightly shy, but forceful personality.  Not entirely confident in her looks, but confident about everything else self-esteem.  Her tender and sweet side, understanding and loving.  All the things our rockabilly/greaser needs.

And for Velma, well for all the trouble she gets in it'd be nice to have someone who doesn't back down or run away from a fight.  Someone who will fight for her honor, even if she is more than capable of looking out for herself :D

They really give off this 1950s/Grease vibe.  She's the adventurous bookworm and he's the sensitive macho type.  Match made in the old world of Cartoon Network (back when the closest thing to live action was Space Ghost Coast to Coast).

*Don't know about this new Scooby-Doo series with real ghosts and Shaggy x Velma pair.  Far as I'm concerned that's an AU.  I'm concerned with the original Velma and her crossover love affair with Johnny Bravo.*

Well... this is certainly an unusual paring, though not the strangest I have ever seen.

A little bit unusual, but we weren't the ones that started it, old school Cartoon Network did :D

If you can make it work, from what I remember of JB is that his Mama brought him up with a respect for women, despite his womanizing ways. He could be a good boyfriend for Velma.

This group is awesome! One of my favorite crack pairings of all. Velma is smart and sweet and Johnny, even though a dense lug, shows a good side. He actually felt bad when he dashed Suzie's belief in the tooth fairy.
"There's no Easter Bunny? NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
B-)

Johnny's a great lug with a big heart. Not the brightest bulb out there though, but he puts all his energy into anything he is passionate about.
And of course we think Velma is the best girl for him :D

Happy to have you

How did this pairing happen and why does it make sense.

Well Cartoon Network had a lot of fun back in the early days of the channel. It was a lot of reruns of old cartoons at first but eventually they started producing their own shows through Hannah Barbera studios (the studio that produced everything from the Flintstones, Tom and Jerry, Yogi Bear, Johnny Quest, and even Scooby Doo).

These cartoons were part of the Cartoon-Cartoon block and consisted of: Dexter's Labratory, "Ed, Edd, and Eddy", Cow and Chicken, The Powerpuff Girls, and Johnny Bravo (to name a few).

The second episode of Johnny Bravo featured a crossover with the Scooby Doo characters. That's the start of it. Characters from the same "Cartoon family" could crossover and share adventures. Cartoon Network expanded on the idea with a number of sequences featuring Cartoon characters interacting with each other in everyday life. One of those mini-features was about Johnny Bravo falling in love with Velma (and the pairing was repeated in a few such "commercials").

That's where the pairing came from/how it happened. Now as to why it makes sense - It makes sense because Johnny Bravo is not some big, dumb woman-chasing jerk. Sure he likes pretty women, but he respects them. He has a good heart and even if he is an ego-maniac, he'll drop everything for a girl. Velma is the brainiac "nerd" girl, but she's a capable young woman on her own. Still, she's marginalized in her own team. I think she wants to be treated like the woman she is (and Johnny is the kind to dote on her).

It's the balance of brain and brawn :D
